Dolamectin is obtained by the fermentation of a new strain of recombinant streptomyce avermitilis, which is a broad-spectrum anti-parasitic drug. It has a good repelling effect on endo-ectoparasites, especially some nematodes (roundworms) and arthropods, but it is ineffective on tapeworms, flukes and protozoa. The main mechanism of action is to increase the release of inhibitory transmitter gamma - aminobutyric acid (gaba), thus blocking the transmission of nerve signals, so that muscle cells lose the ability to contract, and lead to the death of worms. The mammalian peripheral neurotransmitter is acetylcholine, which is not affected by dolamectin. Dolamectin does not easily cross the blood-brain barrier, causes minimal damage to the central nervous system, and is relatively safe for livestock.
